Bfing

Ive blogged a lot about this and I think this is my last post about it. I'm blogging it so I remember. I know there are some very strong opinions about breastfeeding. Please if you do not have anything nice to say then do not say anything at all. I've tried my hardest and that's all that matters.

First I have to say breastfeeding is so hard! I tried with Maddie but this time it has been much harder! Maybe its because I was determined I would do it? I tried from the minute he was born to only breast feed, but his blood sugar dropped really low and we had to give him some formula. We had do this throughout day 1 and 2. His well being was more important then me exclusively breastfeeding.

Jackson has always latched well. Ive seen 2 lactation specialist and they said his latch is great, but the problem is he does not like to suck from my breast. I do not know if he is lazy or what.

At 1 week Jackson went from weighing 7 pounds 15 oz to 7 pounds 4 oz so we had to supplement. Once again his health is way more important then me exclusively breastfeeding. So we usually breastfeed then give him a pumped bottle or formula. I am only pump 1-2 oz so we do not keep pumped bottles long around here.

I can not take fenugreek or mothers milk because Im on blood thinners (until 6 weeks pp). I was never told this and I was actually about to start taking it when I looked it up online and its a BIG no no. Ive tried drinking tons of water, skin to skin, and tons of pumping. Jackson's pediatrician thinks I just don't have many milk ducts. She is so supportive of me trying and keeps telling me I'm doing great. Which is a great help.

So here we are week 3 and I'm still struggling. I am just pumping now every 3-4 hours. Ive tried to put him on my breast this week but he still wont suck. It frustrates him and me so we have stopped for a few days. I know a lot of women will say this is not good, but its not worth him being so frustrated.

I hope to make it to 6 weeks so I can start the fenugreek but if  I dont make it that far I know I tried my best. He has had 3 weeks of breastmilk and that is 3 weeks longer then Maddie had it.

3 weeks

Jackson,

You are three weeks old today. Where has time gone? I cant believe you have been in our lives for 3 whole weeks. You are such a blessing.

The past week you are eating so much! We are still trying to breastfeed but it's still very hard. You are getting breast milk so that's all that matters. When you are hungry you get mad. A couple of times you have set off your monitor (for a high heart rate).

You are sleeping great at night. We usually get you in bed by 9 and you sleep till 1 or 2. You are very particular. You don't really like to be rocked to sleep you just want to be left alone.

You look so much like your daddy. I think its so cute. You are truly his "mini me".

This week you really started to do "Maddie lips". Daddy and I just LOVE it!!! You also started making fits when you are eating, just like your sister.

You are still wearing newborn size diapers and newborn size onesies. Mommy thought she had bought a lot of newborn diapers but I think we may need to go buy some more.

Mommy and Daddy are so in love with you. We still cant believe you are ours!

I'm here

I'm here.
Were here.
I'm just tired.

Jackson and I are trying really hard to figure this breastfeeding thing out. We are both new at it, so its very time consuming. So, I'm tired.

I tell myself everyday I need to go blog, but I'm usually nursing..like all day. One day Jackson and I will get into a better schedule then I will be able to blog more often. So please keep coming back and checking on us.  I promise I am not going to stop blogging.

Yesterday I took Jackson to the doctor for his 2 week check up. He is still not back to his birth weight but he is gaining! He weighs 7 pounds 11 ounces. The doctor said he looks great, and I agree. Look at this cutie..

2 weeks

Jackson,

You are two weeks old. I can not believe it!!! Where has time gone? At the doctors office last week you weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces. You are still under your birth weight.

Mommy started her new job this week. You are my boss! It's a hard job, but I wouldn't trade it for anything! Daddy also went back to work this week. We were really sad for him to leave us, but he have made it on our own!

You are one hungry little guy. I am trying to breastfeed you, but it's hard to keep up with a hungry little man like you. I call you bird because your always hungry with your mouth open like a little bird! It's just precious. I am trying very hard to make enough milk for you. We have to get you back up to our birth weight. Tomorrow we go back to the pediatrician  for your 2 week check up hopefully you are back up!

Did you know everyday I write you a letter in your journal. I want to remember everything about you. I hope to do this everyday for a year (or more).

Love you to the moon and back,

Mommy

Time to spill the beans...

Tomorrow I start a new adventure in my life. Ok so I'm starting MANY new adventures in my life, but, tomorrow is a BIG one.

I have said it from the minute Maddie left us..

If we have another baby I WILL stay home...

So tomorrow is my first day of the most important job a woman can do...

be a stay at home mom.

I resigned last week. It made me sad. I loved my job. I love teaching and I love kids, but being home with Jackson is the most important thing I could do.

I do plan on going back when Jackson is 18 and we finally take his monitor off (kidding).

I am excited for this new adventure. It's going to be many happy days with this little guy..

Maddie

Dear Maddie,

I love you so much. I miss you so much. I hope you dont feel like daddy and I are forgetting about you. I talk to Jackson everyday about you. I usually cry every time I tell him about you. It hurts my heart that he will never really "know" you. My heart is still so broken but so full. It's such a strange feeling baby. I miss you so much. I wish you were here to play with Jackson and give him kisses.

You will always be a part of our family. We will always include you and we will never ever forget you. You will always be my first baby and always be Jackson's big sister. He will know about you.

I know you picked out Jackson just for daddy and I. He is such a good baby. There are many things he does that reminds us of you. He sticks out his lips just like you did and when he stretches he looks just like you.

I am trying to hold it together. I'm trying really hard, but sometimes I just can't. Keep holding me tight Maddiegirl.

Thanks for watching over us. Daddy and I are still so nervous about Jackson's monitor going off. When I get scared, I talk to you. I hope you can hear me. It really helps calm me down and makes me feel better. Daddy is going back to work soon, so Jackson and I will be talking to you a lot. Keep listening baby girl.

I talk to Jackson so much about you that I bet you are wondering when we are going to take him to see your spot. We will soon baby...very soon!

Keep watching over us. We love you so much!

Love always,
Mommy

Birth Story

Tuesday May 8th- I was in pain. It hurt to walk, hurt to stand, hurt to sit, hurt to lay needless to say   I stayed in bed most of the day. I didn't  get anything done that I wanted to do that day. I was feeling so much pressure I kept thinking my water was going to break (remember I was 4 cm and 50% effaced). James packed up the car for me that night and we attempted to go to bed ( we had to be up at 4 am to call the hospital and see if they had any beds). I thought I was wasn't going to be able to sleep due to anticipation of being induced the next day, but I couldn't sleep due to what I now know were contractions.  I was in pain all that night. I kept telling myself I only had a few more hours and to suck it up. I laid  in bed that night and mostly moaned in pain finally at 2:00am I got up and decided it was enough pain and it was time to shower and call the hospital. Around 2:30 I woke up James and told him to get dressed. I was having very sharp pains but my stomach never got hard so I didnt think I was contracting, I wasn't going to take any risks because I was already 4cm dilated. I was not going to have him at home! This is funny now looking back. I took a shower, blow dried my hair , put on my make up and straightened my hair all while contracting every 2 minutes!! I was in so much pain but I wanted to look cute for pictures. Finally around 3:30 I called the hospital. They told me to come on it they were not going to send me home.

On the way to the hospital I started hurting more and more. It felt like it took a year  to get there ( it really only took 30 minutes).  My mom had already beat us there. She was so excited for Jackson to be here. She was waiting outside the hospital waiting for us. It was 4:00 in the morning when we arrived so we had to go in through the Emergency room. I dont know why you have to pre-register because I had to sit down and talk to the admission people while contracting every 2 minutes (not so fun). Finally after what seemed like forever a man with a wheel chair came to take me up to labor and delivery. After winding around the halls of the hospital we finally reached the elevators and all I remember is them going so fast. It was like a shuttle and we were zipped to the second floor. Finally we reached labor and delivery. They were ready and waiting for me (they even knew my name!). At 4:45 we got into our room I changed into the lovely hospital gown and they hooked me up to the monitors. I  was scared they were going to tell me I wasnt contracting and that I was just having pressure from the baby, but I was surprised. I  was contracting ever 2-4 minutes. Thats when I realized that Jackson was picking his own birthday and that I wasn't going to need to be induced.

The nurse checked me and I was 4cm and 75% effaced (so I didnt really change any from the day before). They tried to start an IV and I started to feel very nauseous. I really thought I was going to throw up. I was dizzy and just didnt feel good. My sweet nurses put cold wash cloths on my head and tried to help me feel better, but it didn't work. They ended up giving me some Zofran.

After my IV was in and I was feeling better. I told my nurse my doctor said I could get an epidural before we started anything. She didnt really want to believe me. I kept telling her over and over and over again. She probably thought I was crazy, but I made it to 38 weeks and I had stopped taking my blood thinner shots and I was not playing around. Poor nurse she finally decided to call my dr. and ask her if it was ok for to have an epidural and see if I needed to start Pitocin or just let me labor. My doctor finally called back and said yes she did tell me I could have an epidural before they did anything and we were going to try and let me labor for while before starting Pitocin. Around 6:30 ( I was still 4cm) the most wonderful lady came into our room (the anesthesiologist). The nurse had me sit up and hug a pillow. She even let me hold her hand. Everyone was so nice and I was so nervous. My mom stayed in the room with me but she didnt watch. The anesthesiologist talked  me through the whole thing. It really didnt hurt. It just felt really weird. Everything was in place and she asked me to lay down to do a test dose. I felt fine and everything was great and boom it hit me... I felt so bad. I felt like I was going to throw up again. They tested my blood pressure and it was very low. They gave me a few minutes to calm down and relax then they re took it and it was still really low. I could tell my mom was getting scared at this point so I was kinda scared to. They gave me something not sure what it was to make my blood pressure rise back up and I felt better almost instantly. The epidural started working and my legs were really good and numb. That is such a weird feeling but I was happy and not in pain anymore.

Maddie was watching over us

I was in a great mood. No more pain and still contracting every 2-4 minutes. I liked watching the contractions on the screen. It was cool to know I was having them and not feel them. At some point I asked James and my dad to go get my straighter out of the car so I could fix my hair ( the nurses put a wet rag on my head when I didn't feel good and it was all wavy).

At 8:15  my doctor came in and checked me. I was still 4cm so she went ahead and broke my water and started Pitocin. That drug is mean! It really really really jump started things. My doctor predicted I'd have him before noon. Not even 5 minutes after my doctor left I could feel my left leg. I buzzed the nurse and she hit the bluster button on my epi pump. She told me she lay a certain way and she would come check me in 5 minutes. Well it didnt work I could still feel  my left leg. I was also feeling a lot of pressure and it hurt!!! She decided to check me at 8:30 and I was 6cm and a 0 station. I went from 4 cm to 6 cm in 20 minutes after Pitocin was started. I could still feel my left leg so my nurse hit the bluster button again and decided to call anesthesia so come look at me. At 9:00 I was in a lot of pain. My left leg was STILL not not numb and I was hurting! I was feeling contractions and they hurt. I called my nurse and she checked me again I was 9cm. She told me to get ready I was going to be having him soon! Everything was happening so quickly. My nerves started to kick in and I started to cry. Am I ready ready to hold another baby? I was just so scared. Can I do this with no drugs again? My nurse was so nice. She knew our story and had read our blog. She calmed me down and told me she was there to help me. I am so thankful for her she was so sweet.

At 9:05 my doctor was called to come over for delivery. Her office is right across the street .  I don't know how she got to the hospital so fast but she was there before I knew it. They nurses started coming it and reality sunk in. It's time to have a baby. I was scared..so scared. How could I love another baby as much as I loved Maddie? But I knew our Hope was coming. So I started pushing. 20ish minutes later Jackson was born sunny side up (we didnt know he was sunny side up all my ultra sounds said he was head down). The nurses put him on my chest and I was in love. He was perfect. He had the darkest brown hair and there was so much of it.

Then my freak out mode kicked in. I kept asking the nurses if he was ok. He really didnt cry that much and it really scared me. I kept saying "cry Jackson cry". Finally he did and they took him over to the warmer to check him out. He got a 9 on his apgar score. He was fine.. our Hope was finally here. Jackson weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 21.5 inches long and just perfect!

Next I will blog about our fabulous hospital stay!

My sweetie

Here are some pictures of my sweetie. I am working hard on getting my birth story together, but this mom has to sleep when I can :)

Thank you all for the sweet comments. Jackson and I are doing GREAT! He is such a clam relaxed baby. He only cries when he needs a diaper change or he is really hungry.

We are all adjusting well. Maddie is here with us. We can all feel her. She is truly his guardian angel.

Tomorrow is the big day!!!

I cant believe I will be holding our miracle in my arms tomorrow!!

My doctors appointment went great today! Jackson is still head down, face down. He was just hanging out sucking on his fingers. He doesn't even know what is going to happen tomorrow!

I am 4 cm dilated and 75% effaced. My doctor said tomorrow is going to go fast!!

We have to be at the hospital at 5 am so he may be here before lunch?

I have waited 38 weeks for this "Hope". I am scared, happy, excited, fearful and probably about every emotion you can think of right now. I really don't know what to do with my self.

I can feel Maddie close to us today. She is holding my hand skipping and "I'm going to be a big sister!". She will be be very much a part of the whole process tomorrow. I know tomorrow when I hold Jackson for the first time I will be holding a little part of her too. Its going to be such a special moment.

I am now off my blood thinners so please pray my blood does not clot. It could possibly be a very dangerous time for Jackson and I so prayers are very much appreciated.

EKKKK tomorrow is the day!!!

5 more days!!

Only 5 more days!!!!!

I am trying to hardest to keep these next 5 days full, so I am not just sitting twirling my thumbs. Guess who showed up????
Helllllllo nesting.

I am not sure why you took so long to get here , but WOW you are here in full force.

I have officially cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. I don't think our house has been this clean in a LONG time.

I still have more to do,  but I can only do a little at a time before I exhaust myself.

So how about this CRAZY super moon this weekend?
I have had many people send me fb messages telling me that full moon's make pregnant ladies deliver! CRAZY! Who has heard this? I guess we will see tomorrow if its true.

Tomorrow James and I are going on our (for real) last date as parents of 1 (that's if the moon doesn't get to me..haha). James asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I wanted to go eat dessert!!! Sounds perfect to me! He may need to bring a BIG wallet. I will probably want to eat everything!

I think James and I are going to do a video blog this weekend.. We have a little surprise for you. We can also show you Jackson's nursery.  You remember the one he probably will not sleep in until hes like 3 (just kidding..Don't freak out).

Have a great weekend!
