I want yall to know..

I have good days to....

and today was one of them!

I took my niece and former student Brooklyn to the pool. We had fun...just us girls. It took my mind off of things. I love these girls they are doing so much to help me heal.

I want to say a special thank you to all of the comments you have left. I read every one of them. A special thank you to the angel mommies. Thanks for sharing your stories and helping me realize I will be happy again!

You know I am so glad I kept blogging after Maddie's death. It has helped me in so many ways. Posting my feelings, getting support, meeting other angel mommies. I really thought about not blogging my story, but even with the nasty comments some have left blogging has really helped me!

I also want you all to know James is healing from my blog to. He reads every comment that is left. So, if you would like to encourage him I'm sure he would love that!
Love you Maddie!

Sad

I'm upset today.

I can barely look at Facebook any more. Everyone is going on with their lives when mine is standing still. I just want to press rewind. This isn't fair!

I don't want to see pictures of all the other babies around Maddie's age. It makes it clear what I am kissing. Don't get me wrong I am happy for them, it just hurts!

Today my angel friend mommy said her doctor went to a conference on SIDS and they think SIDS could be hereditary and it is linked to prolonged QT. This hurts.. HEREDITARY? James and I want more sibling for our Maddie, but I will NOT make it through this again....hereditary..I just want to puke! I know this is only a theory..but it hurts!!!

(Taken from www.archdischild.com)

"Long QT syndrome causes sudden
unexpected death through rapid
ventricular tachycardia (‘‘torsades
de pointes’’) leading to ventricular
fibrillation (see figs 1 and 2).1 2 The
postmortem examination reveals no
cause for the death. These characteristics
make long QT syndrome a plausible
cause of sudden infant death syndrome
(SIDS), and many research efforts have
been made to investigate a possible link.
The genetic forms of long QT syndrome
are usually inherited in an autosomal
dominant fashion (Romano-Ward syndrome).
Yet gene carriers can be asymptomatic,
and around a third can even
have a normal ECG.3 Therefore the
condition might theoretically cause
multiple SIDS within a family, with
apparently healthy parents. It has been
suggested that parents in such families
might have"

Maddie

Yesterday it kind of snuck up one me.. grief...

I was having a great weekend just hanging out with James and BAM out of no where it hits me!! I started crying and could not stop. This was the first of many to come ''grief attacks''.

I miss Maddie so much. Everything reminds me of her.

I try HARD very VERY hard not to think about that horrible day I got "the call" or the day of her funeral. Why do I want to remember those days? I want to remember my sweet happy Maddie. Well those days have started to sneak up on me. I will be doing something and BAM a image of that day will flash in my head. WHY? I don't want to remember that. I am sure this is normal, but I'd like to skip this phase.

I do feel better about calling the medical examiner. James and I both now know we did everything right. We didn't "miss'' anything medically wrong with her. She was healthy and happy. Unfortunately SIDS is something that will happen, it can not be totally prevented. There are many things that you can do to reduce the risk (see below), but it cant be totally prevent. I feel like we did everything right to the "T" during pregnancy and after until the day she was taken from us. SIDS is not discriminate.

I feel like I need to post these again.....

How to reduce the risk of SIDS

We don’t know what causes SIDS, so we cannot say how to “avoid” it, but we can provide you with the most up-to-minute guidelines for reducing the risk of SIDS and other sudden unexplained infant deaths (SUID). First and foremost, educate yourself and everyone who cares for your baby on how to reduce the risks by following these guidelines:

1. Always lay your baby to sleep face up.
Side and tummy positions are not safe; check with your doctor if your baby has breathing problems.
2. Don’t smoke while pregnant and never smoke near your infant.
While pregnant or considering pregnancy do not smoke. Never let others smoke near your baby. Smoking is a major risk factor for SIDS.
3. Don’t let your baby get too hot.
Overheating is a leading risk factor for SIDS. Dress your baby in as much or as little as you would wear. If your baby is sweating, has damp hair, or a heat rash, he or she may be too hot. Room fans have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS. Consider using a wearable blanket or other type of sleeper instead of a blanket.
4. Lay your baby to sleep in an approved crib, on a firm mattress.
Do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad, or waterbed. Remove all loose bedding, stuffed animals, and pillows from crib. Crib bumpers are not recommended and can be hazardous.
5. Create a healthy lifestyle for you and your baby.
When pregnant, see your doctor often and do not use drugs or alcohol. Talk with your doctor about changes in your baby and how your baby acts.
6. If possible, breast feed your baby.
Breast feeding has been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS.
7. Offer your baby a pacifier at all sleep times.
Pacifiers have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS.
8. Put your baby on his or her tummy to play when your baby is awake and supervised.
Make sure someone is always watching. “Tummy Time” is good for your baby because it makes neck and shoulder muscles stronger.
9. Don’t share sleep surfaces.
Adult beds, couches, and chairs are not safe for infant sleep and increase the risk of SIDS, suffocation and accidental infant death. After breast feeding put your baby back in his or her crib.
10. Share these tips with everyone who cares for your baby.
Education is the key to keeping your baby safe

Mattress wrapping

I was asked about Mattress wrapping.. So here is some info on it.

Mattress wrapping is based on the toxic gas theory. The theory states that toxic nerve gases permeate from all used mattresses: crib, bassinet, adult mattresses and even sofa cushions. The gases are created when fungus grows inside the mattress (or foam) and eats certain elements in the mattress, including phosphorus, arsenic, and antimony. Babies, especially those sleeping on their stomachs, breathe in the toxic nerve gases, which results in crib death, or SIDS.

Mattress wrapping, which is essentially wrapping the mattress in a polyethylene cover, prevents the gases from getting into the baby's breathing space. The polyethylene sheeting does not allow the gases to permeate, thereby preventing inhalation and subsequently preventing crib death.

SIDS Information

Every new parent knows the fear that hangs out in the back of the mind at the end of the day, when putting baby to bed. We have heard about SIDS, we may even know someone who has lost a baby to SIDS, and we feel incapable in the battle to fight SIDS. But do you know everything you need to know to protect your baby? Here are some basic facts about SIDS that you can find on most SIDS organization sites:

  • SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME is the sudden, unexpected death of an apparently healthy infant under one year of age that remains unexplained after the performance of a complete postmortem investigation, including an autopsy, an examination of the scene of death and a review of the medical history

  • As a result of the national Back To Sleep Campaign, launched in 1994, SIDS rates have declined by more than 50%

  • SIDS is the leading cause of death for infants one month to one year of age, continuing to claim the lives of approximately 2,000 babies each year

  • African American and Native American babies are 2-3 times more likely to die of SIDS than Caucasian babies

  • Most SIDS deaths occur when a baby is between 2 and 4 months old; 90% of all SIDS deaths occur before 6 months of age

  • Most babies that die of SIDS appear to be healthy prior to death

  • More SIDS deaths occur in the winter and fall months

  • 60% of SIDS victims are male; 40% are female

What may concern you is that the whole story is missing from these statistics. What you might want to know is that SIDS has been seemingly stamped out by families who practice mattress wrapping specifically as a SIDS prevention measure. A practice proven successful for over 12 years, mattress wrapping is the answer to what some scientists say is the cause of SIDS: toxic nerve gases.

SIDS

Today I did something I have been putting off for a few weeks. I needed to call the medical examiner's office to see if they got the toxicology results back from Maddie's autopsy. I want to know the results but then again I didnt want to know them. They should call me right? Wrong.

This week at my support group meeting the ladies in my group told me the importance of calling and getting the ruling in order for me to heal. So I told my self I was going to have to do it. It was going to hurt but then I will never have to do it again and hopefully I can get some closure.

I had no intentions on calling today. But something told me to, so I picked up the phone and started dialing. I thought for a second.."ok you can hang up now".. But I didn't..... I let it ring. I told them my case number and the lady put me on hold to get my results. Yes, she put me the terrified mom on hold to get my results. I was shaking! She came back and said, " For Madison correct?". "Yes..." I said. "Well.." she said... " Case of death: Natural Causes/SIDS". I said thanks hung up and started bawling.

Did I really just call the medical examiners office and they tell me my healthy 4 month old baby girl died from natural causes? What is natural about a healthy baby dying? UGGG.. I could not stop bawling. It hurts. Now its final. SIDS took our baby girl.

HEB and running away

I have been avoiding going to the grocery store by my self. That is something Maddie and I did together it was "our thing". Well, I knew it was coming and yesterday it happened. I had to go to the store by my self. I was doing fine until I heard a mom yelling at her young son and baby to be quiet and then I got sad...very sad.

(I understand moms get frustrated....Believe me I was there a few times with Maddie, but now to hear moms yell at their kids makes me furious. What I wouldn't give to have my daughter back and that lady yelling....arrrrg )

I wanted to leave but I knew I needed to stay and get my shopping done. The more isles I walked down the more babies I saw and it just made me even more sad.

At one point I was so upset I thought if I leave I can come back really late and try this again..but I didn't leave I just kept on shipping very quickly!

Maddie must of heard me talking to myself because right after that all the isles cleared from all the people and it was just me.Then I was able to finish my shopping.

That was sad. This is my new life. Trying to run out of a grocery store because I just couldn't handle it. Why? This sucks. I just want her back!

Speaking of trying to run out of somewhere this happen last week..

I was at a workshop for teachers. There was this lady who knew I was pregnant but I am pretty sure she didn't know what happened to Maddie. She saw me and I immediately wanted to run because I knew she didn't know. I did stop and talk to her but I kept thinking please don't say anything ,....please don't say anything. She kept telling me I looked so good and I lost all my baby weight. At this point in the conversation I knew I had to do something or she was going to ask me how the baby was. So I started to walk away...My heart was pounding!! Honestly, I really thought about running...but if I started running she would of thought I was a nut job! I know she probably thought I was so rude but I couldn't stand to tell anther person my story.

So I am learning not everyone knows my story. Other people are going to ask me about Maddie. It's just going to happen. If I can only get to a point where I was can talk it without crying. One day I will get there but for now it's still just to hard!

Father's Day

I tried to make today a special day for James. I wanted to do anything I could to make today just a little bit easier for him.
Yesterday (Saturday) I gave James his fathers day gift from Maddie and I. We bought him a whole goody box of Meguires car wash stuff. He needed it that day to wash his car so I gave it to him early!
Today, James woke up before me. When I saw him this morning he looked sad. I told him Happy Father's Day, but he just seemed upset. I was doing everything to make him smile!

Today we started the morning off with a photo shoot of James and his dads car.We took some photos in a neighborhood by us then we drove to Brenham and took some more photos. We all has a blast!
Here are some shots I got..

After the photo shoot we went over to my aunt's house to see my dad and whole family. It was nice to see everyone. We have not gone to a family gathering since Maddie went to be with Jesus. It was sad tho, not having Maddie. I kept feeling like I was missing something and it is her (along with 1/2 my heart!).

I hope I made today so special for James. He is such an amazing father. Maddie is so lucky to have such an awesome daddy. I know she is flying with all her angel friends talking about how fun and sweet her daddy is!!!
Happy Father's Day James Maddie and I love you SO much!!!!!!!

Saturday

Today I woke up sad. I think because James had to work for the 13th day in a row and it kind of "hit me".
I felt it. Maddie has been gone longer then she was here. So I cried. It hurt.
I had to do something so I could stop crying, so I texted a friend..then I cried some more.
I kept telling my self I can do this. I got through yesterday just fine. Why is today so hard?
So, I decided I needed to get busy doing something. So I made a set of blocks and some bows and I felt much better. I have said this before I dont know why but making bows makes me feel so much better. I think because Maddie always wore bows, and it helps me remember her.

I worked until James got home from work, then I was happy. Poor James he has been working so hard! He finally gets a day off tomorrow for Father's Day.

Part of James fathers Day gift is me taking some awesome photo's of his new car. So that's part of our plan tomorrow.. a BIG photo shoot. I'll post all about the rest of our day tomorrow.

Happy early Fathers Day!

The dreaded day...

Today went a lot better then I expected. It was a sad day but I made it.

I could feel the love, support and prayers lifting me up all day (Thank you all so much!).I know Maddie was around. I could feel her. I woke up and started talking to her. She didn't want me to be sad today, and I tried hard not to be.

I knew I needed to stay busy today so I took Bella to get a hair cut, then I went and ate breakfast with my mom.

After breakfast I went to my best angel mom friends house. Michelle was a hair stylist in her former career an amazing one I must say so she highlighted my hair. We did lots of girl talk . We talked about Maddie and her angel baby Anna Kathryn. I cherish my friendship with Michelle she "gets it". We can talk about things that other people just don't understand. She has helped me through many of these hard moments and today I am so grateful she was there to help me through this day. (She also cut my hair. I feel like a new lady!!!)

After getting my hair done I went and picked Bella up from the groomer and headed back to my moms house. We went and ate lunch and just talked. Then I headed home and James arrived a few minutes later. We went and rented a Red Box movie, "Go with it..".It was super funny!!!

Today I tried hard not to super unfair this is. I just tried to be happy and remember all the fun times with Maddie.

Today I wanted to post pictures from the day Maddie was born. It was a day I will never forget. Maddie was ready to come into this world (3 weeks early!) So, here she is... Ms. Maddie on her birthday..

I just noticed she was already doing her pouched out lips!

Dear Maddie,
Today marks a day I never wanted to even think about. Today you have been in heaven dancing with the angels longer then you were with mommy and daddy. Thank you for wrapping your wings around me today. I know you were with me all day. I felt very peaceful today. Maddie don't ever forget mommy and daddy love you so so much and we miss you so so much. Keep flying by we will always be talking to you!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Tomorrow...

Tomorrow is the day I have been dreading since Maddie passed away. Tomorrow marks the day when Maddie has been gone longer then she was here. This hurts. I hate even typing those words. It makes me SICK. I know I can get through tomorrow. I have made it through so many hard days and tomorrow is just another one of those. I keep telling my self that Maddie is watching. That's how I make it most days.

So, tomorrow I am going to wake up and smile because we were blessed with our beautiful angel for 4 months. We are so lucky to of spent that amazing time with her.

"If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again"

Maddie Day

Today is Maddie Day.

We are celebrating Maddie's 8 month birthday. I wish so badly that she was here celebrating with us. The thought always comes back into my head, "This just isn't fair!!!"

This morning I went and met Julie, my new teaching partner, for breakfast. We talked about Maddie and we both cried. She told me I am the strongest person she has ever met. I am glad people can look up to me for strength. But, I am stronger now then I ever wanted to be. I'm also proud of my self. I am living through the worst thing a mom can go through and I'm making it. I'm doing everything I can to keep Maddie's memory alive and to spread SIDS awareness.

After breakfast I came home and started cleaning. Our house is in need of a good clean.

Tonight James and I are going to go out to dinner for Maddie Day. We are going to sit and talk about how lucky we were to get to spend 4 months with our precious angel.

Today has been easier then I thought. Friday I think will be the true test of my strength. Friday is the day Maddie will be gone longer then she was here. Just typing those words make me sick! I knew this day was coming and it's quickly approaching. But, I think James and I are doing a great job keeping Maddie's memory alive. Maddie has touched so many people across the world!!

So, please remember not every day is guaranteed take pictures of your kids, love on this a little longer, give them 1 more kiss, let them stay up a few minutes later, give them that 1 piece of candy...because you just never know.

I want to say thank you to our friends, FB friends, blogger friends and family have sent us many wishes today. We needed them!!! Thanks SO much!!!

Happy 8th month birthday Maddie. Daddy and I love you and miss you SO much!!!!!

It's not supposed to be like this..

I haven’t been to the graveyard in a while. I honestly don't like going. But, I'm Maddie's mom I need to go! I need her to know she is my everything. So, I put on my brave face today. I needed to go talk to Maddie. I had some things I needed to tell her.

So, today I went to visit Maddie.

I got in my car shaking. I have never gone to the cemetery alone. James and I usually go together. But, I know he doesn't like going and I'm out of school for summer so I decided to go on my own.

Before I even left our driveway I was crying. I kept thinking "This isn't right. I shouldn't have to drive to the cemetery to feel close to my daughter. This just isn't right.."

This morning I didn't even put any makeup on because I knew I would cry it all off. Well I am glad I didnt. By the time I got to the cemetery it would of been GONE.

I got closer and closer and I cried more and more. Finally I got to her beautiful tree by her spot. I sat in my car and just looked. There was her resting spot. I didn't want to get out of the car. This is all still just a VERY bad dream. But, in reality it's not.

So, I opened my door slowly and got out. The cemetery had sprinklers everywhere the water was flying, but not around Maddie's spot. So, I walked over to her sat down on a bench that is right next to her and I started crying. I must of cried for 5 minutes straight. I told Maddie her daddy and I loved her. I told her we miss her so much. I told her lots of things. We had a nice girl talk and I shed many many tears. I cried so much I started to make myself sick. I whispered to Maddie that mommy needed to go and I walked away.

How did we get her? Maddie was so healthy and so happy. We were playing almost 4 moths ago and she was fine. Now I am visiting her at her grave site. I just don't understand. I don't know if I ever will.

Someone once told me each day that I walk this horrible path is a day closer to seeing my Maddie in heaven. Those words are what keeps me going.

I can't wait to see you again Maddie, keep waiting. I'm coming!

Memories

Maddie is gone. She isn't coming back. I still cant believe this. I hate this. I REALLY hate this.

I think I have been so strong so so so so strong. But today I broke. I couldn't' stop crying. I just kept thinking my baby is gone..she is really gone!

Yesterday I went into Maddie's room and just walked around. There are so many great memories in her room. But, I am so scared I am going to forget all these memories. I have a HORRIBLE memory...and I just don't want to forget!! I keep going over memories in my head, but then I get sad. So, I decided to look through some of her pictures and write down some memories.

Maddie was only 1 weeks old. She was SO mad that I put that flower on her head she would not stop screaming! I was so upset that I could not get a good picture, but now I love this picture..because that's Maddie (full of life).

Or like this picture. James thought I was so silly to take a picture of Maddie's umbilical cord when it fell off. I was such a proud mommy. I remember thinking "OMG what do I do now... Is she going to bleed??". I am so glad I have this picture. I want to member everything about Maddie's life!!

This picture is taken on the floor in Maddie's nursery. I remember this day Maddie was being so sweet. I wanted to learn more about my camera. So, Maddie and I headed into her room to try to figure out some poses to do. I laid her down and she posed herself. (She was 3 weeks old)

My brother took this picture. Maddie was 10 days old. this was taken on the bed in our guestroom. I remember thinking , "Wow its hard to take picture of newborns". Maddie was so good that day. She just wanted to sleep, and we kept waking her up!!!

This is Maddie in one of her many Halloween outfits. I remember thinking she just looks so peaceful. James and I took Maddie outside for a few minutes that night and watched the trick-or-treaters.

This picture is funny! My mom and I took Maddie to a pumpkin patch and it must of been 90 degrees. Maddie was only a few weeks ago, so all she wanted to do was sleep. In almost every picture Maddie is passed out..She would NOT wake up!!!

This is the first time I let Bella really get close to Maddie. We were all "playing".

Yesterday I was looking through my maternity pictures...then it hit me. I never got any of my maternity pictures printed because Maddie surprised us with her grand entrance just 2 short weeks later. So, yesterday I sat down and braced my self. I knew it was going to be hard to look at them and it was! But there are some really great photos.

My maternity pictures were taken by Kristin King...She takes AMAZING photos!

I love you Maddie.. I will do everything in my power to remember everything about you!!

Some yummies

Ive been drooling over all the recipes at Favorite Family Recopies

I made this cake last night. Let me just tell you its SO easy and YUMMMMMMY!!

Better then you know what cake....

1 pkg. devil's food, chocolate, or German chocolate cake mix
1 can sweetened condensed milk
caramel ice cream topping
1 (8 oz.) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
4-5 Health or Skor bars, chopped up

Bake cake according to package directions for a 9x13 inch pan; cool for about 5 minutes. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes into the cake. Let the cake cool for a little while. Slowly pour sweetened condensed milk over the cake, letting it sink into the holes; then drizzle some of the caramel over the top of the cake. Let cake cool completely (I usually cover it and put it in the fridge for a while). Top cake with whipped topping. Decorate the top of the cake with candy bar chunks and swirls of caramel topping. Refrigerate a little longer, then serve!

Tonight I'm making that Coconut Chicken I posted a few weeks ago.

Here we go...

So far summer has been SO busy and I LOVE it.

I have made TONS of bows and a few blocks. I LOVE getting stuff done.

I love making bows. It is so peaceful and its just a great way for me to relax and heal.

I keep listening to this song.."Things are fixin' to get real good". He is singing about his career and "honkey tonks"..which have NOTHING to do with me but it makes me happy and believe things can only get better right??

Maddie's 8 month birthday is coming up next week. I want to turn the 14th into "Maddie Day" and make it a fun day. I'm not sure what we are going to do yet, but hopefully it'll involve some sun!!

Summer

Last summer I was pregnant and dreaming about the following summer when I could take Maddie to the pool. I dreamed she would be splashing around with her cute two piece swim suit all greased up with sun screen.

Well, unfortunately it's still a dream.

Yesterday James and I went to the pool with family. I was nervous. I wanted to be there with Maddie. I was happy having a great time until I see a baby about the same age Maddie should be splashing around..then I got sad. This just isn't fair!

I have actually been in great spirits ever since I got back from my Chicago conference. So, I thought to myself , "don't let this get you down". Think about how pretty Maddie is right now with her beautiful angel wings. ..then I felt better.

I feel like I have taken 5 giant steps forward. Me Ra's confidence workshop really really made me feel better. I am so grateful to have had that opportunity!

I know in the back of my head my 2 steps back are trying to sneak up on me, but I'm really trying to not let them!!! Maddie's 8 month birthday is approaching. The date when she will be in heaven longer then she was with us is also coming. Those 2 days will be hard...very hard.. But I can make it through..

So, on a happy note check out this really cool picture I took in Chicago.
